NC House and Senate Committee Chairs: The Full List

This week, the newly elected NC House Speaker Destin Hall announced committee chairs. The Senate announced their leadership a few weeks ago, meaning we now have the full picture for legislative leadership to start the 2025-26 biennium.

NC House Committee Chairs

In the state House, Speaker Hall reduced the amount of committees from 44 to 33, which will likely streamline the legislative process for certain bills. Rep. Shelly Willingham, D-Edgecombe, was the lone Democrat to receive a chair appointment. Willingham is known for his willingness to work across the aisle, and this may signal a continued working relationship between Willingham and House Republican leadership. On the flip side, the House Ethics committee is historically chaired by one member of each party.

NC Senate Committee Chairs

In the state Senate, Senate President Pro-Tempore Berger announced 21 total committees with several notable changes. Sen. Dave Craven, R-Randolph, and Tom McInnis, R-Moore, were appointed as chairs of the Finance Committee, joining Sen. Paul Newton, R-Cabarrus. The Health Care Committee will have new chairs as well following Sen. Krawiec’s retirement. Sen. Jim Burgin, R-Harnett, will continue leading the committee but will now be joined by Sens. Amy Galey, R-Alamance, and Benton Sawrey, R-Johnston. Sen. Berger also established a Regulatory Reform committee, appointing Sens. McInnis, Jarvis, and Moffitt.
